‘MY ASTONISHING SELF’ WHAT THE CRITICS SAID
The two hour one-man show brilliantly devised by Michael Voysey.
Max Adrian was the first actor to portray Shaw in ‘MY ASTONISHING SELF’ opening in the Edinburgh Festival, before moving to the Criterion Theatre London. There later followed a reprise by Donal Donnelly, whose characterisation won world acclaim. The last reprise was by Dermot Walsh in the City of London Festival. Dermot himself an Irish man brought to the stage the wit of Shaw contrasted with the moving account on the death of his (Shaw’s) wife.
The astonishing life and loves, the wisdom of the wit of the fiercely funny GBS-the genius who inspired ‘My Fair Lady’. ‘My Astonishing Self’ was originally written especially for the Edinburgh Festival and has subsequently been produced with enormous success and critical acclaim at the Criterion Theatre in London and in New York and indeed all over the world from Tokyo to Dublin, from Zurich to Hong Kong from Austria to Australia.
